UKBS Plc offer a comprehensive highway design and transportation planning service for public and private sector clients. For many development schemes we have combined the highway design function with drainage and sewer design to give an overall package of ‘road and sewer’ information.  Our highway design team can undertake all types of highway work varying from minor footway and carriageway maintenance schemes through to multi million pound new build schemes.

We can demonstrate our ability to deliver a large volume of highway design work within tight constraints.  The majority of the highway projects we undertake are followed through from design to completion with us acting as the designer, project manager, quantity surveyor, contract administrator and supervising work on site. The variation in schemes has meant that we are able to compile contract documents in a variety of contract forms to suit the particular requirements of a scheme.  In addition to detailed highway design our team is experienced in providing additional related services such as, transportation and feasibility studies, topographical surveys, environmental surveys and site investigation.

We have provided a highway design service to Kingston upon Hull City Council's Technical Consultancy.

We were successful in tendering for an environmental works scheme as part of the £38m revitalisation of the Garths area of Bransholme - a large council housing estate in Hull. The design service was carried out to the specific and exacting requirements laid down by the Council.

This work included the preparation of contract drawings, bills of quantities etc together with pre-tender health and safety plans and risk assessments in accordance with CDM Regulations 1991.

Close liaision was required with the Council's highways and landscape architects sections during the design process.

We were commissioned by York City Council Consultancy to design and supervise a scheme to improve a junction on the A1237 York Outer Ring Road (ORR).

The Moor Lane / A1237 junction on the Outer Ring Road had been assessed by the Council and found to be experiencing problems in terms of visibility for both southbound traffic on the ORR and traffic leaving Moor Lane. It was decided that the junction geometry be altered to improve the existing left turning from Moor Lane at the junction.

We carried out detailed survey work and identified with the Client the extent of the work to be carried out. A safety assessment of the proposals was then carried out to establish design parameters based on visibility and vehicle speeds.

The works were supervised on site by ourselves including the settlement of the final account and the production of as-built information.
